About UsAltrusa provides opportunities for professional and businesswomen to come together to change the world through community service. Our present primary focus is literacy. Organized in 1924 and chartered in 1928, Altrusa of Charlotte was the first club for women in Charlotte. Women pioneers helped form our club at a time when women were denied participation in local clubs with men. Sixteen women are listed as charter members of our club and Margaret Berry (Street) served as the first president from 1924 – 1925. Club meetings are held on the second Thursday of each month at Myers Park United Methodist Church on Queens Road in Charlotte. We are a non-denominational organization. The meeting starts at 6:15 and consists of dinner, program – usually with a speaker, and a short business meeting. If you would like more information on our organization or would like to join us for a meeting, please fill in the information below and a club member will contact you. We hold fundraisers such as attic sales, paper and gift sales, nut sales, silent auctions and others to finance our projects. Working together to earn the money and then working together to “use” the money not only helps our community but also enables us to develop friendships with women throughout the Charlotte area. We’re not just all about work. The Charlotte Club has fun as well. We’ve had events such as the yearly picnic, yearly holiday dinner, wine, and cheese tasting event, attending plays and musicals and socializing at the monthly meeting dinner.
