Club Projects

The main focus of our service projects is literacy but we do many other projects for our domestic and international communities. Here is a list of our 2011/2012 projects:

1. Mothering Across Continents – donated funds to help with their “Mentoring Mwiko” school project which helped 700 children with books and learning materials.
2. Kids Against Hunger – Altrusans donated their time to assist 2xSalt Ministry to pack and deliver 100,000 meals for starving children through the Samaritans International Organization.
3. Sterling Elementary School – Club Members volunteered to serve as judges for the Schools’ Science Fair.
4. Charlotte Rescue Mission (environmental project) – Members donated cell phones, phone chargers and accessories to the Charlotte Rescue Mission.
5. Dress for Success – Club Members donated business attire to help women find jobs.
6. Druid Hills Academy –donated books to children for their summer reading program
7. Equip to Educate – partnered with Target to collect school supplies for Druid Hills.
8. Back to School Bash – Altrusans coordinated a back to school festival for the children & families at Druid Hills, offering free games, food vendors, community
   resources and music. Each child left with a bag of school supplies.
9. Support our Soldier – we sponsored an Airman and his family from the National Guard offering support for him and his family while he served in Afghanistan.
10.  Plantation Estates Retirement Community – purchased books to update the reference section of their library and served refreshments. This project was in honor of one of our Emeritus Members. 
11. Angel Tree Gifts – Altrusans came together to help children celebrate Christmas by donating thirty-five gifts for children.
12. Druid Hills Food Pantry – Altrusans donated a storage cabinet and snacks to Druid Hills Academy for children that arrive hungry.  
13. “Jo and Friends” – Altrusans made blankets to donate to “Jo & Friends” organization. Blankets were donated through “Project Linus” for critically ill children or those in crisis or trauma.
14. Box Tops for Education – members donated box tops.
15. Blanket Appalachia – we donated snacks
16. Department of Social Services – Altrusans donated toiletry items to DSS for our “Altrusa Has Heart” project.
