Conference Details and Program

Altrusa International, Inc. of Charlotte, North Carolina has the distinct honor of hosting the District Three Conference at the Omni Hotel from April 3 through April 5 of 2008.

The Conference theme is “Altrusa … Making Dreams Come True.” The logo, which is on our website, shows the crown (for our namesake Queen Charlotte) shining down on the skyline of Charlotte. Altrusa clubs throughout the world are constantly making dreams of all sizes come true – some are small and some are large.

The Conference will kick off on Thursday night, April 3, 2008 with a welcome reception and a First Timers Event, followed by our Flag Ceremony. The Flag Ceremony will honor all four states in our District - North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia and Florida – as well as the United States and the United Nations. We will also honor, in a memorial ceremony, those Altrusans who have died in the past year. This is always a moving and emotional time.

Friday morning will begin with a breakfast followed by a business meeting. The District Three Foundation will host the Friday lunch and announce the winners of the Foundation projects. Friday afternoon will be filled with seminars that will be both educational and fun. Friday night the Charlotte club will host Fun Night...Watch for more details on that event in the future.

Saturday begins another full day with the Awards Breakfast followed by another business meeting. Saturday will have the seminars again but also there will be free time to enjoy some of the wonders that the Charlotte community has to offer. Links to some of those attractions are listed on the Charlotte website also.

The Conference will end with the Governor’s Banquet on Saturday night honoring District Three Governor Linda Robison. The banquet will feature music and a guest speaker.

Throughout the Conference, a space will be set up for vendors who will have various items for the attendees to purchase and a space for the District Three sponsored project: Packaging books attendees brought to help refurbish school libraries in the
New Orleans school district. The Hospitality Room will also be manned by the Charlotte club for visitors throughout the Conference time period.

It will be a fun-filled three days: meeting new friends, seeing friends who you only see at Conference each year, making plans for the District for the coming year, hearing the great things that have been done in the past year, great food, a beautiful hotel, shopping, touring Charlotte, and also being “altruistic” with our book project, again promoting literacy.
